Create Visual Experiences! There is power in visual imagery! We recognize brand images even before we see the name…white scripted writing on a red can, a large yellow M on a sign a quarter mile away, a single color green mermaid on a white cup… Research indicates that visual cues help us to better retrieve and remember information. This is largely because our brains are image processors and not word processors. Words are abstract and rather difficult for the brain to retain, whereas visuals are concrete and, as such, more easily remembered. A visual experience by which to remember the lesson can be a creative way to help students engage in deeper levels of processing and associate with a particular concept or learning. Later, when they try to recall it, they will most likely bring up mentally the image you used. They will also never look at that item again without remembering a lesson or truth about God’s word that was shared. Last Sunday as our class talked about Chapter 6 of Song of Solomon, we noted that even after a breach/misunderstanding, Solomon used only sweet words to describe the beauty of his beloved. He did not give into negativity or bitterness. Our teacher gave each student a box of heart candy. We will never look at this candy again and not remember the lesson. There are only SWEET EPRESSIONS in this box as our words should be. Visual experiences need not be costly. You can often find multi-packs at discount retailers. If you are serious planner you may even benefit from a unique find online! 😉 #GrowYourSundaySchool. #Themoretheyknowthemoreyougrow #creativity #learning #learningisfun #teach #learn #iStudy #bemine #sweetheartscandy Have you "liked" That Sunday School Girl so that you never miss helpful posts?
